About

My name is Sara, most know me as Sara Ant.  I’ve always been a little bit of a misfit, always felt a little out-of-place, like I missed the 1st day of school.  I’ve struggled to find who I am in this life that doesn’t fit – until I realized that was just dumb.  I always knew I wanted to travel but never did because I didn’t have the money, one day I realized that didn’t really matter and made a plan to make it happen.

I vowed to sell everything I owned, pay off my debt, outfit a van to live in and travel around the Americas working on organic farms.  I was about 6 months into my planning when out of the blue I got an email (on OKC) from an old co-worker whom I hadn’t seen in 6 years, he wondered if I’d like to travel with him on his trip to Mexico in a few weeks.  Being the opportunist I am, jumped at the chance!

During our time in Sayulita (and a trip to Florida the following week), Tom & I fell in love – crazy, fairy-tail love that you only see in the movies ❤

I moved in with Tom the day we returned from Florida and we’ve been gearing up for our departure ever since.    In April 2013, we will leave our home behind and travel the States, some of Canada, down into Mexico, Central and South America.  We will be wandering along with no set plan or schedule, and we have no end date in mind.

I’ll be sharing our adventures with you here, I hope you enjoy reading – if you ever have any questions, please send me an email!

If you want to read more about our story, I go over that in my first post

  2. I just found your blog via Life Remotely and can’t wait to follow you along. My husband and I and our 2 dogs are hoping to depart on the same path in a little over a year and love reading of those who have come before us.

    • Great! We took a little over a year to plan and couldn’t read enough blogs; I know the feeling! Sorry I have not yet caught on to the whole travel and write and post game yet! I think about writing a lot LOL
If I could give you ANY advice, it would be advice I refused to take; do not buy your gear before you leave! I couldn’t NOT plan, but now that we’ve been OTR for a lil over 2 months and have replaced just about everything we had bought before we left, I wished I had headed the warnings!

Happy trails, maybe we’ll see you out there!

  3. Well, we are a bit experienced at it… having taking a 14mth RTW backpacking trip in 2007-2008 so, luckily for us, this time around we are pretty good with what we know we want & what we can live without. The great thing about driving this time around is that at least we don’t have to carry it all on our backs! My plan is to someday meet ALL the bloggers who have inspired me so you’re on the list!

  4. Awesome! Keep in touch, I’m sure we’ll cross paths – damn we keep criss-crossing all over the place!

P.S. I can’t imagine backpacking!! We joke that maybe when we hit the tip of SA we’ll be so seasoned we’ll pack backpacks, sell the truck, and hit the airways! We’ll see…
